Julian Assange to Plead Guilty in WikiLeaks Case

Landmark Espionage Trial to Conclude

U.S. Charges to Be Dropped as Part of Plea Deal

In a groundbreaking development, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has agreed to plead guilty to illegally obtaining and disclosing classified information. The plea deal, which will be finalized on Wednesday, brings an end to a protracted legal battle that has spanned several years.

Assange's arrest in 2019 and subsequent extradition to the United Kingdom sparked global attention. The U.S. authorities charged him with violating the Espionage Act, alleging that he had conspired with former U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to obtain and publish sensitive diplomatic and military documents.

The plea deal will see Assange accept responsibility for the Espionage Act violation. However, it is reported that charges under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act will be dropped. The terms of the agreement include Assange serving time in the United States, but the specific sentence length has yet to be determined.
